How the pieces fit together

You are the integrator of your own development. The writing and case studies here work out what that means, and how to build systems that help you do the integrating. The finished pieces are linked. The rest are sketches and will change.

The problem space

You as integrator sketch

Nobody can learn or grow for you. Specialists like teachers, doctors, and managers generally work inside their own domains, and nothing they hand you arrives fitted to your life. Integration is your job, whether you wanted it or not. Ask anyone who has had to navigate the medical system through a real illness.

Seeing the whole person sketch

If you set out to design the most effective possible support for a person's growth, it would obviously need to see the whole person rather than a narrow slice. That seems self-evident, but almost nothing we build works that way.

connects → step zero · you as integrator

Step zero: What are you actually solving? shipped

Before solving anything, confirm what the problem actually is. We tend to skip that step, and it turns out to be the one that matters most.

Aligning the incentives of your development sketch

This is the principal-agent problem, applied to your development. When you're not the one paying, the system answers to whoever is, and what you were actually hoping for is nobody's job (e.g. why we have tutors and concierge doctors).

connects → personal data sovereignty · when scaffolding becomes a cage

Personal data sovereignty sketch

Integration runs on your data, which is now scattered across systems and providers. Prying these fragments back out is real work. Setting up and maintaining integrations is a technical challenge. You have to become part librarian and part data engineer.

What to build

Encoding what works sketch

Best practice often isn't practiced at all. A system can carry that knowledge for you, apply it every day, and keep it current as the evidence moves.

connects → step zero · operationalizing knowledge · fitness advisor

Operationalizing knowledge sketch

Reading about training isn't training. Knowledge changes outcomes only when it's built into an environment that acts, with state, schedules, and feedback of its own.

connects → encoding what works · recursive self-improvement

Recursive self-improvement sketch

You build a system, live inside it, and improve it as it improves you. This is a loop that compounds.

connects → operationalizing knowledge · agency · becoming as gods

Inside the model, or outside it? sketch

As the models get better, how much of these systems for human development moves inside them, and how much stays outside, in structure you own? How do we find the boundary?

The human core

Agency is not following a better script sketch

It's easy to feel agentic while climbing someone else's ladder with someone else's compass. Agency is knowing what you actually intend, then acting on it.

Stretching into our imagination shipped

Builders of development systems see a small slice of the person. We should expect systems that see more of us and help us move in the direction we intend.

The stakes

When scaffolding becomes a cage sketch

A system powerful enough to guide you is powerful enough to steer you. The stronger these systems get, the more that difference matters.

connects → aligning the incentives of your development · agency

Becoming as gods, getting good at it sketch

The power arrives whether we're ready or not. A society where a few people direct the machines and everyone else takes direction from them doesn't work.

With help from AI shipped

Every piece here starts as my own thinking, usually spoken out loud. AI helps gather material and assemble drafts, and I edit until I own every word. Judge the writing on whether the ideas stand.

Case studies

Fitness advisor shipped

A personal training system that fits into my life: how it works, and how it was built.

shows → encoding what works · operationalizing knowledge · personal data sovereignty

Personal health record shipped

I'm assembling my health history in one folder. What it can do today, and the much larger system I'm building on that foundation.

shows → personal data sovereignty · operationalizing knowledge

Surf advisor sketch

Given a door-to-door window, is surfing worth it, where should I go, and what should I bring? The evidence gets gathered deterministically and the judgment happens on top, fitted to my skill, my boards, and my access rather than to surfers in general. A surf day then credits the fitness advisor.

shows → encoding what works · the persistence layer

The persistence layer sketch

The context layer under every system I run. It holds who I am, how I decide, and what's current, and any AI I open loads it and starts already knowing me. Every fact carries its provenance.
